San Lameer’s resort hotel, the Peermont Mondazur, have been busy preparing themselves over the past month for the arrival of Africa’s top football team, Algeria. They have gone through a slight upgrade in their rooms by replacing all TV sets with flatscreens and putting in twin beds which will definitely benefit them with future conference accommodation requirements. The Chef and medical team arrived a week early to help the Hotel with their special needs and get them geared up for the arrival of the star performers. The kitchen staff in particular have been excited about the chance to work with the Algerian chefs. Security has been rather tight as one can imagine and the estate has seen regular visits from the local SAP as every possible situation thought of and prepared for. In a blaze of vuvuzelas the team arrived on Monday morning, 7 June, and were whisked through to the hotel to check in and unwind. A media briefing took place the following day and the team set off to see their new base camp, the UGU Sports and Leisure Centre, in Gamalakhe, just outside Port Shepstone. This multi-purpose sports centre consists of two FIFA International sports fields and have been built, each boasting irrigation, grassing and drainage similar to all the big stadia. The pitch has even been newly re-grassed with the rye grass which is the new FIFA requirements for all the stadia. There is an indoor sports centre, offering all the necessary facilities for the team to complete their training, the training centre has a high performance centre and gymnasium as well as access to other sporting options i.e. basketball, volley ball, tennis and netball. A medical area as well as rehabilitation areas with food and beverage outlets. This will be their home until their last game – depending on performance. Their first game is Sunday 13 June, kick off at 13h30 in Polokwane against Slovenia, followed the week after, 18 June at 20h30 in Cape Town against England and the 23 June at 16h00 in Tshwane against the USA. All at San Lameer would like to wish them all the best in the games, and ofcourse we will be supporting Bafana Bafana, their first game being Friday 11 June against Mexico at 16h00 at Soccer City, the following week 16th June at 20h30 in Tshwane against Uruguay and the week after 22 June 16h00 in Bloemfontein against France!!
